Night wearing lilac veil was floating along moonlit vague road where trees were squeezing their crowns…

One of my favorite Toscana pictures and one of the most symbolic ones. The road twisting among hills, far and beautiful estate where it may lead, tilled-fields and green grass, fog and cypresses, tired pilgrims on this way… I contemplate it very often, missing Toscana, morning cappuccino with dolce, velvet wine (I actually haven’t yet found any better), extremely tasty focaccia with rosemary which Luka takes out of his oven in the evening, pizza with pear, gorgonzola and boar salsiccia (I have never tried anything tastier)… Enough about food though… I miss great people and Tuscany sun, unique clear air and smell of small old towns. I also miss all of you who woke up at 4 am with me 10 days running, went to bed after midnight and who shared this joy to observe this Beauty! Thank you all guys! Happiness is nothing if there is no one to share it with…

Wind of soft grass is tender to them…

I make my photo tours to Toscana late autumn and early spring. There are 2 reasons for that. First, we are trying to catch fogs. And it is the right time when it is warm during the day and can be very cold at night. And we can see the fog that makes Toscana not an ordinary perfect picture but adds depth, mystery and soul to it… There is no such beautiful, clear and real color of grass and fields in any other season. Though we know that Toscana hills are derived from volcanic eruption that happened thousands and thousands years ago, still the massive material of the hills is trachyte which you can see in the lower part of the picture, and I do not want to think about it… I believe this landscape was made by wind that was blowing along the hills, combed grass-side, and covered everything that needed to be saved with a tender plaid… These overflows of volumes and tints are what Italians have been preserving for the past 5-6 centuries understanding that it is so hard to find more perfect quintessence of harmony between nature beauty and the thing that can be brought into by human who can and is capable of appreciating and preserving such a miracle…

And we all scramble to the rainbow…

When I reached the best shooting spot, bright, dazzling rainbow appeared with dark sky on the background. I felt absolute euphoria, as it was the first time we had such great weather for 5 days running. I took this shot. Sun was descending very fast behind me. And when last beams touched white walls of Vitaleta, second rainbow was coming up. I realized that the light was passing away and 70 mm lens cannot capture the whole picture.
I got my camera into a vertical position and made a 15-shots panoramic view. Light was over with the last shot. I threw away about 6 shots because of camera shake. But the rest shots were enough to assemble this PICTURE…

We’ll be darker than night, but lighter than day…

Splendid Capella della Madonna di Vitaleta. Heart and soul of Orcia river valley. Simple but exquisite, it is situated on top of a hill surrounded by two cypress guardians. When we came there, there was no sign of evening light. But still I sent the girls to the spot downwards and drove off to show
Romeo Belvederes. We stood there about 40 minutes, were caught by rain and hail and then we realized the sun would not come out, so we turned back. And only when we got back and got out of the car I was amazed to see that the heavenly body had gotten through a small peep between leaden clouds and horizon and illuminated the hill with magical warm light. I rushed downwards with my camera to the best spot. My feet got stuck in oily freshly plowed soil. I stopped every 5 meters and made a shot, as this miracle could come to its end any moment. At one of such stops I caught this lovely moment when sunset flame barely touched a skein of birds flying by, creating them into a nonexistent constellation…

And when I reached the spot, something absolutely incredible happened, but it is all about next picture…

Sitting on a beautiful hill I often see dreams…

Same marvelous morning. I have been to the place so many times but have never noticed such a picture. Fog added necessary volume to the picture. Low beams of the slightly risen sun made hills texture clearer. Cypresses looked like tired people strolling towards far estate hiding in whitish gauze. I had to run a bit to find a good spot where trees would not obscure the lower part of this beautiful view. And finally I had to climb a wall, it’s good it was not very high. My efforts were worth it. I like the result…

Clouds are blowing fogs towards autumn…

My autumn Toscana photo tours are over. And I feel slightly sad. I am at home, surrounded by my family. And I am kinda happy, but it’s been the second night I woke up in my own bed at around 3 am in the morning thinking it was time to go see the sunrise. I miss your faces and laughter, and arguing, and morning cappuccino with dolce… And while it is still not evened out in my mind I’m gonna show you best single shots from those twenty amicably crazy days…

My lovely spot, Pienza city wall. That day we were going to Montepulciano instead. We arrived pretty in advance thanks to Vitalik’s vigilance There didn’t seem to be anything interesting in the valley. When we were discussing the situation, Vadim Balakin
Said he had noticed fog near Pienza. We decided to go back there. And it was the best morning I have ever seen in Toscana. I will show you a lot of wonderful pictures from there. And this is one of the first ones made there. The sun didn’t yet rise but the sky turned into amazing orange hue. Fog was moving extremely fast along the hills. That was quite the fog we needed. It was not a gauze covering all surroundings, but rather low, vivid fog, just like a duvet… We stayed put there not feeling cold at all and waited for the first beams of the naughty autumn sun…
